Thanks for the links! I have to play the pedant, however, and point out that in your first paragraph you probably mean “for anyone thinking about turning their DISSERTATION into a BOOK,” unless you’re actually suggesting a radical reversal of standard academic workflow.

I learned early in my career that publishing sometimes involves a bit of a scam on the writer. The acquisitions editor charms you and then moves on, and the person you actually deal with isn’t quite as charming or interested or responsive. Watch out for it!
