Ozma
Kathleen ‘Ozma’ Lowrey is an assistant professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Alberta (PhD UChicago 2003). She carries out fieldwork in the Gran Chaco region of lowland Bolivia. Her interests include science and technology studies, political ecology, intellectual and cultural property rights, the political mobilization of indigenous peoples in Latin America and elsewhere, and lowland South American ethnohistory. When she puts it most grandly, she says her research “examines the place of science and technology in New World political imaginaries”. To this end, she also has a bit of Oz obsession (the L. Frank Baum, rather than the Hugh Jackman, version).
