On a related note: Does anyone know where it is possible to find translations of French journal articles? Is there some easy way to search for translations or for articles that have been published in both English and French? Thanks in advance.

Not a blog (ethno-web does not seem to be, either), but http://www.ethnographiques.org/ is a very good on-line anthro journal.

In France, and in french, I know just one anthropology blog I can reccomend which seems functionaly equivalent to Savage Minds. You will find it at www.ethno-web.com. Actually I have searched on the web for my own purpose and I did not find more french anthropology blogs. Certainly they do exist but I think they are academic blogs with reserved access. I just find one which is open to every one and can be interesting ... if you read french.

[...] A recent post by Rex on Savage Minds connects the American Civil War with the American Anthropological Association (AAA). He reflects that… In the years leading up to the civil war, sectionalism meant the divisive need to commit to either the South or the North hence Robert E. Lee's reluctant decision to serve the South, despite his own dislike of slavery and secession: "I must side," he wrote, "either with or against my section." In the context of the economics of AAA journals, on the other hand, I'm rapidly learning that understanding sectionalism is also very important.
